Establishing a web presence is sometimes quite confusing with all the technical terms that get tossed around. Impressing you with a lot of technical jargon is not our way of doing business; we want you to understand the process in plain language. Many of the questions we encounter are included below. If you have a question that’s not answered here, just contact us and we’ll do what we can to help you.
Q: How long will it take to have my website ready?
A: Typically a standard website of 20 pages or less can be completed within a 8-10 weeks or sooner, depending on the availability of content and your timeliness in responding to requests or approvals. We normally begin development of your website within 1-3 business days after we've received the signed work agreement and initial deposit, excluding preliminary design concepts.
Q: Who owns the content of my website?
A: Once the final balance has been paid and the website is launched, you own the content. Of course we are here to help with the website, edit content, etc. but you are the owner of the content and are free to use it as you deem appropriate.
Q: Some companies want you to sign an annual agreement with monthly charges over and above the hosting and domain fees, do you require this agreement as well?
A: No, the only additional agreements we may have in place with you would be for website maintenance, firewall software or content editing arrangements, other than those types of services (which are all optional), we don't require a "lease" on your website. You own your website and the content within it.
Q: Will my website be responsive and accessible on mobile devices?
A: Yes. All websites designed by us are responsive and accessible on all mobile devices. To be blunt, every website developed in 2019 should be and needs to be. To see if your current website is mobile friendly use this tool developed by Google.
Q: If I no longer need the website, perhaps if I close the business or organization, do I still owe 54 Design Group, LLC for hosting or the domain?
A: No. In most cases you are the owner of your domain and in control of your hosting account. Should you no longer need hosting or the domain you will simply contact the domain registrar or hosting company and arrange for services to be discontinued. Be advised, some hosting agencies will not refund hosting when paid on an annual plan after a certain period of time. This is their policy, not ours and we cannot control this.
Q: How much will our website cost?
A: We generally don't offer flat-rate pricing aside from our $1899.00 website for up to 5 pages with solid features. Each website has different requirements which require consideration not only in how they will be implemented but also who will manage the website itself. More experienced users may be able to manage a more robust website such as Squarespace or WordPress, with others happier with Weebly. Much like other products or services such as automobiles, homes or accounting services, the more you require the greater the investment. Please contact us for a proposal.
Q: What is a CMS or Content Management System?
A: A CMS or Content Management System, is a website development platform that enables the end user (you), to make many of the changes to the text, images, and other content without the assistance of a web developer (us). Depending on the scope and size of your website, this may be a good alternative for you, especially if you anticipate frequent changes. If you would rather not deal with site changes, we are happy to take care of them for you through one of our maintenance plans. These plans average $45.00 per month for about an hour of content updates included.
Q: What is the process of getting started and payment terms?
A: After we have agreed upon what you will require within your website we will provide a scope of work agreement in which both parties agree to perform certain activities at certain times. We will provide two unique designs for you to consider and if you like what you see we move to the next step. If not, we will discuss further what you're looking for and move forward. Once the overall design is agreed upon we will then request a deposit to begin work; this is generally 50% of the project total. There will be a few benchmarks along the way requiring your approval and once the website is finished and approved by you, the remaining 50% will be due. Normally we provide a series of screenshots of your website for you to review and approve, in certain situations we will provide an online link. Upon receipt of the final payment the website will be published to the internet. Major credit cards are accepted through PayPal and we also accept business and personal checks. Payment terms are available upon request, please inquire.
Q: Who develops the site content or descriptions about products and services?
A: We will ask you to send whatever information you may have available including text, brochures, images, website URL, etc. Part of our service is developing your content in a way that’s appropriate for a website. We understand how to develop content with links, site flow, long tail keywords, and other search engine optimization (SEO) factors in mind. Developing content for a website is somewhat different than for print or brochures and we develop or adjust content with site optimization in mind. If you do not have any information available or simply don’t have the time to pull the necessary content together, we can help with this as well at a modest additional charge.
Q: What features can I have on my site?
A: The following features are features that are available either as a standard item or upon request or an additional charge. The $1899.00 Budget Website has limitations with regard to standard features.
Q: Will my site appear on the major search engines?
A: Your website will be submitted to Google and Bing. Please keep in mind that your site may not appear on the first page or two immediately or perhaps even at all. Appearing on the top should not necessarily be your primary goal, developing a useful website for your visitors should be. Visitors come to your website for information or to make a purchase. By providing high quality content you’ll have more satisfied visitors and probably achieve higher search engine rankings. There are programs available to place your website at the top of the page however these are generally pay per click services where you pay a fee based on your marketing budget.
